Affordable Care Act Upheld by Supreme Court

Today the United States Supreme Court upheld nearly all provisions of the Affordable Care Act. TherapySafetyNet’s coalition of socially responsible therapists has watched these proceedings closely with an eye toward how the outcome might impact the uninsured New Yorkers our organization serves.

Though we expect over the next several years that the number of uninsured will decrease as a result of more affordable access to health insurance, a sizable population of uninsured New Yorkers most likely will remain. During the initial rollout of the new law, penalties for individuals who choose not to purchase health insurance will be relatively modest compared to the cost of annual premiums.

The need will continue to exist for TherapySafetyNet to help uninsured New Yorkers find affordable psychotherapy through our network of participating psychologists and social workers, each of whom has agreed to work at significantly reduced fees for the benefit of those in need.

We expect to be reviewing our eligibility requirements and other administrative processes to adapt to the changes that are soon to come in the healthcare system, and we will post these changes here as they occur.
